A Stunning quality Shapland & Petter mahogany writing cabinet. This iconic Shapland & Petter writing cabinet is a variation of the one illustrated on the front cover of Daryl Bennett,s "Shapland & Petter Ltd Of Barnstaple, Arts and Crafts Furniture". The upper section having a raised gallery above three arched pigeon holes. The central section having a wonderful marquetry inlaid central panel with rippled moulding flanked by hand beaten copper stylised hinges, which opens to reveal a beautifully fitted mahogany interior, retaining the original baize writing surface. The lower section having a central mahogany lined frieze drawer flanked by the fall front supports, above a typical Shapland & Petter angled apron, also repeated on the sides. The whole stands on square tapering block feet united by an H stretcher and is stamped R1529 105 to the reverse, circa 1900 Condition: This writing cabinet is in excellent original condition, wear to the baize consistent with age and use.
