An exquisite quality Late Victorian marquetry inlaid antique display cabinet by the renowned cabinet makers Maples & Co of London. The solid mahogany top of breakfront outline having a foliate marquetry inlaid frieze with penwork detail which is repeated on the ends. The central glazed door opening th reveal a glass shelved interior with a silk lined back and base. The rounded ends again with exquisite floral marquetry inlaid detail, and having further marquetry inlaid panels to the lower section, the whole raised on elegant cabriole supports, this cabinet is stunning quality throughout as you would expect from a quality cabinet maker like Maples & Co circa 1890-1900

Maple & Co was established by John Maple, a shopkeeper from Horley, Surrey, who later opened a furniture shop in Tottenham Court Road. However it was his son, John Blundell Maple, who made Maples & Co a success. With exceptional business skills, John B. Maple took over the company while still a young man. By the 1880s they were the largest furniture store in the world, exported their fine furniture to every continent.
