A Stunning quality mahogany display cabinet by Edwards & Roberts of London. The solid mahogany top having a brass balustrade gallery. The frieze having a secret central drawer with an inlaid panel depicting a flaming urn and griffins with trailing foliate marquetry detail, flanked by inlaid ribbons and swags. The central glazed door opening to reveal adjustable shelves to the velvet lined interior. Each glazed panel having a bevelled edge. The lower panels again with exquisite marquetry and penwork inlaid detail. The whole raised on splayed feet, stunning quality mahogany throughout with satinwood cross banding circa 1890-1900

Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century.
They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp.
