A Late Victorian Period mahogany antique pedestal desk by Hindley & Sons of London. The rectangular solid mahogany top having an inset rouge leather writing surface with blind and gilt tooled detail and a moulded edge. Having an arrangement of nine rectangular drawers each with solid mahogany fronts, oak and cedar linings, an aesthetic style solid brass handle and retaining the original locks and working key. The pedestals flanked by fluted columns with solid mahogany panelled ends and back. Raised on a mahogany plinth with concealed castors. English circa 1880-1900

Charles Hindley & Son were London antique furniture and cabinet makers who traded from 1766-1898. Their premises were in Oxford Street, London, from where they made furniture by Royal Appointment, and also exhibited in the Great Exhibition.
