The sliding central panel once open releases the locking mechanism for the three graduating mahogany lined drawers flanking each side. The rounded corner top having an inset brown leather gilt and blind tooled writing surface above an arrangement of five mahogany lined drawers. The central shaped knee hole with carved floral detail, the whole raised on elegant cabriole supports with floral carved detail to the knees terminating in a knurled foot with inset brass castor&#39;s circa 1850-1860. The use of choice figured veneers throughout this desk indicates the top quality of the desk, it is stamped to the drawer &quot;Gray goose of Great Queen Street, London&quot;. Gray goose were a prominent London cabinet maker of this period and contemporary of Gillows&lt;/p&gt;

The central frieze drawer flanked by two further small drawers, the whole raised on four square tapering ebony inlaid supports. The drawers are cross banded in ebony with sycamore banded detail. This desk is beautifully veneered throughout in amboyna and is finished all the way round so it can be free standing and has beautiful polished mahogany linings throughout. Although not stamped the quality of this piece would indicate that it has been made by one of the top London cabinet makers such as Holland &amp;amp; Sons circa 1870&lt;/p&gt;
