Long Description:

A Victorian Period rosewood and mahogany ormolu mounted antique bureau plat. The oval top having an ormolu beaded edge with a satinwood, Kingwood and marquetry inlaid border. Having an inset faded leather writing surface with gilt and blind tooled detail. The concealed rectangular frieze drawer with symmetrical marquetry, rosewood and purple heart inlaid panel, which is repeated on the reverse and the bowed ends and with a rosewood cross banded border. Raised on four elegant turned and reeded supports, terminating in cast ormolu feet with ormolu collars and cast ormolu mounts. English in the French style circa 1860

Condition: This bureau plat is in superb original condition, cleaned and waxed. A couple of repairs to the leather consistent with age and use. This bureau plat was undoubtedly made by one of the premier furniture manufacturers of this period such as Gillows Of Lancaster or Holland & Co

A French Louis XVI Style rosewood brass inlaid bureau cabinet. The upper section having a stepped and moulded cornice above the brass inlaid frieze and having twin rectangular bevelled glass doors, opening to reveal an adjustable shelved interior. The pilasters again with ribbon and harebell brass inlaid detail. The lower section having two rectangular mahogany lined drawers above the bowed bureau fall, profusely inlaid with urn and trailing floral detail, which opens to reveal a leather inset writing surface. Raised on four elegant turned and reeded supports with ormolu capitols, united by an X framed under tier. French Circa 1900

Condition: This bureau cabinet is in excellent condition. Re-polished

The top veneered in wonderful figured goncalo alves, the twin drop flaps when opened allow access to the end drawers, and also slide out to create extra working space. The central rectangular drawers having top quality bramagh locks. The second drawer having a well fitted tray lined interior and also housing a velvet lined sewing bag. Raised on typical Gillows style reeded tapering supports, terminating in water gilded cup castor's. Retaining the original knobs throughout. This work table is firmly attributable to Gillows Of Lancaster although not marked circa 1830

A stunning quality Late Victorian inlaid writing table by Edwards and Roberts of London. The rectangular solid mahogany top cross banded in satinwood and ebony having a heart shaped inlaid motif to each corner with an inset black leather inset writing surface with gilt and blind tooled detail. Having a central rectangular frieze drawer and a further two mahogany lined drawers to each side, with the knee hole having shaped corner brackets. The ends and reverse of the desk are beautifully finished and cross banded in satinwood, raised on square tapering supports terminating in brass ball feet, with harebell inlaid detail throughout, stamped by the makers Edwards & Roberts of London circa 1890

Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century.
They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp.

The interior having well fitted compartments and drawers with a green leather writing surface, is accessed by an ingenious mechanism which opens the cylinder whenever the drawer is opened. The mahogany lined frieze drawer having ribbon and garland marquetry and penwork detail, raised on mahogany square tapering supports united by a shaped under tier, probably made by Edwards & Roberts Of London circa 1890-1900

The rounded corner top having an inset brown leather gilt and blind tooled writing surface above an arrangement of five mahogany lined drawers. The central shaped knee hole with carved floral detail, the whole raised on elegant cabriole supports with floral carved detail to the knees terminating in a knurled foot with inset brass castor's circa 1850-1860. Long Description:

A stunning quality Victorian Period antique amboyna ladies writing desk. The upper section having twin banks of drawers each with pierced brass galleries, united by a galleried shelf. The lower section of inverted breakfront form having an inset olive green leather writing surface. The central frieze drawer flanked by two further small drawers, the whole raised on four square tapering ebony inlaid supports. The drawers are cross banded in ebony with sycamore banded detail. This desk is beautifully veneered throughout in amboyna and is finished all the way round so it can be free standing and has beautiful polished mahogany linings throughout. Although not stamped the quality of this piece would indicate that it has been made by one of the top London cabinet makers such as Holland & Sons circa 1870

A Small Victorian Period Mahogany Antique Pedestal Desk

Long Description:

A small Victorian Period mahogany antique pedestal desk. The rectangular solid mahogany top having a thumb moulded edge and with an inset black leather writing surface (probably the original). Each pedestal having four graduating pine lined drawers, and with a long central frieze drawer. Each drawer retaining the original mahogany turned drawer pulls and locks, the whole raised on a mahogany plinth base. This desk is all in one complete piece circa 1880

Condition: This desk is in excellent original condition. There are minor scuffs and marks consistent with age and use, The top right hand drawer and the bottom left hand drawer both have old repairs
