A Wonderful George III Period Mahogany Secretaire Chest

49" wide x 22" deep x 43" high

A wonderful George III period mahogany secretaire chest, the rectangular mahogany top with line inlaid detail above a large top drawer having twin oval veneered panels, which opens to reveal a well fitted interior with a central mahogany veneered door opening to reveal two storage drawers and a pigeon hole which give access to the two "secret" compartments which are disguised as leather bound volumes of Asbridges Works, flanked by further drawers and pigeon holes. The chest having a further three graduated drawers with ivory escutcheons and stamped brass oval handles, the whole raised on bracket feet circa 1800

Condition: This chest is in excellent original condition, there is part of the ivory missing from the escutcheon in the secretaire drawer, the handles are later replacements, minor scuffs consistent with age and use
