The rectangular top is in two sections, the back section having a raised brass gallery and a marquetry inlaid central floral motif, which lifts open to reveal a fitted interior which includes a glass inkwell. At the same time the back lifts up, the mechanism raises the otherwise flat brown leatherette writing surface on a slight angle, the mechanism is operating by means of the mahogany button on the back. The davenport having a central frieze drawer above a wonderful marquetry inlaid fall front central door which opens to reveal a single shelved interior, raised on shaped line inlaid tapering supports terminating in stylish brass and porcelain Castor's circa 1890 Condition: This davenport is in excellent original condition, the later leatherette surface having minor scuffs consistent with age and use, fully cleaned and waxed
