84" high x 62" wide at Cornice x 22.5" deep at Cornice

A Stunning Quality Arts and Crafts Period Mahogany bookcase by Shapland & Petter Of Barnstaple. The upper section having an inverted breakfront flared cornice above a beautifully patinated copper verse "READING MAKETH A FULL MAN". Having triple leaded glass doors opening to reveal an adjustable mahogany shelved interior with leather dust protectors, flanked by open tapering columns. The central section having an open spindled side gallery raised on mahogany tapering pedestals. The lower section having a serpentine top above an open central arch flanked by twin linen fold panelled doors, each with wonderful Celtic hand beaten copper strapwork hinges, the whole raised on square supports circa 1900-1910

Condition: This bookcase is in superb original condition, the gilded detail to the leaded glass doors is worn and there are a couple of small cracks to the glass (see pictures). Wonderful original patination to the hand beaten copper handles etc, stamped S & P, B to all the locks, fully cleaned and waxed
