An Early Victorian Mahogany antique writing desk, this unusual and rare desk having a raised mahogany superstructure with a brass galleried back above an unusual concealed central compartment. The sliding central panel once open releases the locking mechanism for the three graduating mahogany lined drawers flanking each side. The rounded corner top having an inset brown leather gilt and blind tooled writing surface above an arrangement of five mahogany lined drawers. The central shaped knee hole with carved floral detail, the whole raised on elegant cabriole supports with floral carved detail to the knees terminating in a knurled foot with inset brass castor's circa 1850-1860. The use of choice figured veneers throughout this desk indicates the top quality of the desk, it is stamped to the drawer "Gray goose of Great Queen Street, London".
