An Arts and Crafts Style Antique Oak monks bench. The panelled top having a carved moulded edge and lifting to reveal three wonderful carved panels. The central panel depicting a galleon at sea flanked by exquisitely carved mermaids, signed and dated by the maker "Fecit John F McNeil MCMLIV" The arms again wonderfully carved depicting mythical serpents and the hinged seat with three further beautifully carved panels of roses, flowing tendrils and acorn leaves. The seat lifts to reveal a storage compartment. The front, sides and back panels all having exquisitely carved panels depicting sea life and anthem ions. The quality of the carving in this bench is second to none, made by John F. McNeil circa 1954 Condition: This monks bench is in excellent original condition, fully cleaned and waxed
