An Exhibition Quality Victorian Burr Walnut, Tulip wood And Ormolu Mounted Pier Cabinet C1870-1880

An exhibition quality Victorian burr walnut, tulip wood and ormolu mounted pier cabinet. The rectangular top having richly figured burr walnut with sycamore and purple heart cross banded detail. The frieze having Wedgwood ormolu mounted plaques and tulip wood cross banding. The central glazed door opening to reveal three plate glass shelves and a mirrored back. Again the door veneered in richly figured burr walnut and ormolu mounts. The canted corners with exquisitely cast rams head mounts, veneered in purple heart with sycamore panels and ormolu string inlay. The glazed sides having similar purple heart, sycamore and ormolu mounts. The plinth similarly inlaid and raised on four ebonsied bun feet. the quality of this cabinet cannot be expressed, it is simply the best quality of this period and almost certainly the work of Gillows or Holland and Sons of London circa 1870-1880
