A large pair of Marley Bronze horses after Guillaum Cousteau, each with a trainer restraining his rearing horse. Beautiful brown patination on naturalistic bases. French circa 1870-1880
Louis XV commissioned the original pair of horses for his Royal hunting lodge known as Chateau De Marly to replace two groups of Fame and Mercury on horse back. Cousteau's design re-invented the theme of the Colossal Roman marbles in the Piazza Quirinale, Rome.
