A Stunning Quality Late Victorian Period Mahogany Inlaid Writing Desk By Edwards & Roberts Of London C1890-1900

49" wide x 22" deep x 38" high (knee hole 24" high x 21" wide)

 A stunning quality Late Victorian Period mahogany inlaid writing desk by Edwards and Roberts of London. The upper section having a stepped back with a brass trellis gallery and concave shaped compartments in fiddleback mahogany and with the finest marquetry and pen-work inlaid detail depicting an Adam style urn with ribbon and swag foliate marquetry detail. The compartments open to reveal two mahogany lined fitted drawers with ink well and pen trays. The lower section having a solid mahogany top, double banded in satinwood and having an inset olive green blind and gilt tooled leather writing surface. The central rectangular kneehole drawer with fine quality floral marquetry and penwork detail flanked by three bow front pedestal drawers again with fine quality marquetry detail, oak linings and fine quality gilded brass handles. The knee hole having shell inlaid spandrels. The desk is finished all the way round in fine quality mahogany with satinwood cross banding and string inlay so it can be used freestanding in the centra of a room. Raised on eight square tapering supports with spade feet. English circa 1890-1900
