A Rare Fine Quality Arts & Crafts Period Mahogany Open Bookcase/Cabinet By Shapland & Petter Of Barnstaple C1900-1910

61" high x 14" deep x 50" wide

 A rare fine quality Arts & Crafts Period mahogany open bookcase by Shapland & Petter Of Barnstaple. The raised spindled gallery having a shaped shelf with an inset hand beaton copper panel bearing the Latin proverb "VITA.SINE.LITEREIS.MORS.EST" which translates to "Life without literature is death". The shelf above two angular mahogany doors with copper strapwork hinges and Art Nouveau stylised leaded panels which open to reveal a mahogany shelf. The central doors flanked by adjustable open shelves with a further two open shelves below. The whole raised on shaped supports with block feet. Constructed using the finest mahogany throughout and bearing the Shapland & Petter registration stamp to the back. An example of this bookcase can be found on page 55 of Daryl Bennetts Arts & Crafts Movement In Great Britain 1850-1915 England circa 1900-1910

Condition: This bookcase is in excellent original condition, cleaned and waxed
