AN EXTREMELY RARE SET OF SIX ARTHUR SIMPSON OAK DINING CHAIRS. THE DESIGN OF THESE CHAIRS WAS FIRST USED IN THE TUDOR CAFÉ INTERIOR IN LEAMINGTON SPA, A COMMISSION WHICH SIMPSON UNDER TOOK IN 1911. THE SIMPLE YET BEAUTIFUL DESIGN WITH THE USE OF THE FOUR ENTWINED HEARTS SHOWING SIMPSON'S CONNECTION WITH VOYSEY. THE SIMPLE BACK SPLAT HAVING AN ARCHED TOP RAIL WITH VERTICAL SUPPORTS GOING DOWN TO A SHAPED SEAT WITH STUDDED LEATHER UPHOLSTERY, SUPPORTED ON SQUARE TAPERING LEGS WITH A HINT OF CHAMFER FROM TOP TO TOE TO GIVE ADDED STRENGTH AND STABILITY CIRCA 1910-1915. THESE CHAIRS ARE ILLUSTRATED IN AN INTERIOR PICTURE OF THE TUDOR CAFÉ CIRCA 1911 IN THE ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT IN THE LAKE DISTRICT "A SOCIAL HISTORY" BY JENNIE BRUNTON

CONDITION:  EXCELLENT OVERALL, BUT SOME OF THE LEATHER HAS PERISHED AND "TIRED"
